This gray fox kit was brought to NWC in 2000 after being attacked by dogs. The damage to its back end is too graphic to show in this photo. After months of rehab at NWC, it was released!

Someone witnessed a person purposefully swerve to hit the red fox mom of these kits (early April 2002). Fortunately, there was enough snow to track back to the den to rescue these 6 adorable orphans. All were released in late July 2002.

Several years ago a donation was made allowing us to purchase a couple Intensive Care Units and an incubator. In 2002 we hatched 11 mallard eggs using this equipment. Here they are being released with a couple more orphans that were added to the bunch later.

Throughout the years we also raised different species of birds of prey.  Here are a few examples: Barred owls, Merlins, Great Horned owls, Broadwing hawk, Saw-whet owls, Bald eagles, Great Gray owl, Peregrine falcon.  The Saw-whet in the front of the picture is now one of our residents.  We

In the fall of 2004 we received a call from up in Ashland, WI of a wounded Snowy owl.  All he/she needed was some food and a place to recuperate.

Songbirds are raised by the dozens.  Here are a couple Cedar Waxwings begging for their hourly meal.  Also Vireo, Blue Jays, Chickadee

Throughout the years we have also gotten in loons.  A special bird to the Northwoods.  Pictured is an adult and immature.  Each came in at separate times in the summer of 2008.  Both were successfully released.

Mammals and birds are the the only wildlife we take care of.  We also receive a number of turtles each year.  The Snapping turtle is being released after being successfully patched up from being hit by a car. (The shine on his shell is from the patch.)  Also a pic of a very cute, newly hatched painted turtle.
