River Otter

(Click images below to view full size)

Some of our most popular patients include 3 river otter that came to us after their mother was killed. They arrived on April 19, 1999. Three weeks old, eyes closed and very hungry.
We were fortunate after we raised them to have a place to soft release them. A soft release is one where we continue to monitor them and supplement them with some food until they're able to catch all that they need on their own.

They grew fast. Here's a quick pictorial of baby to over 1 year old.

First they were fed with an eyedropper, later a bottle. Here's their first swim.

We have had otters in following years, but photos are kept to a minimum so as to reduce the chance of imprinting.
