EDUCATION
(40% of time)
The internship is not all about
dealing with orphaned or injured animals. Educating
the public is an important job and you will help by using your growing knowledge
and the permanent residents. When
working in the front room you will be expected to prepare the center for
visitors, answer questions in person and on the phone, over the phone determine
the urgency of animal distress, and give tours.
You may also be given the opportunity to work with some our resident
birds or turtles and help give educational programs to the public.
The public is the soul purpose
the center exists, but also the reason patients come through the doors.
Animals may be found on the side of the road, caught by a pet, or fallen
from the nest, but whatever the situation the concern citizen needs to be told
what to do or not do. Once the
animal is brought to us it then becomes the interns' job to educate the person
about the animal and in some cases explaining that by feeding the animal they
may have caused more harm then good. The
interns also educate people that want to satisfy their curiosity of animals,
learn about the center, or are just looking for something to do on a rainy day.
