Program Descriptions
Animals: This is a
modified version of Birds of Prey and Turtles geared towards preschool and
kindergarten aged children. The key characteristics of each type of
animal is discuss with the help of natural artifacts and some our
resident animals.
Birds of Prey: One of our most
popular programs. The adaptations that make birds of prey different from
other birds are presented during this program. Items such as skulls and
talons are passed around for everyone to touch and see up close. One to
two of our resident birds are also presented during this
program. Activities such as Fill the Bill are great add-ons to this
program.
Compass 101: The
basics of the compass and orienteering will be explained in this
class. Practice your skill by creating an orienteering course.
Maximum group size of 20 with 2 students per compass. Outdoor area
needed for practice and compass course. (For ages 10 and up.)
Dinosaurs/Prehistoric Animals:
Discover the evidence of life of long ago. We will put the pieces
together that will help us imagine the time that dinosaurs roamed the
earth. During this program children will get the chance to handle
real and replica fossils.
Frog Calls: Learn the way
to identify frogs by not even seeing them. Each species of frogs make their own
sound which can be used to identify them. Group will learn the basic
sounds of 10 frogs common to the Northwoods. They will also get the chance
to practice these sounds by creating a "Frog Chorus". If you are
studying Wetlands, Amphibians, or Animals of WI this would be a great supplement
program. (Best if program is giving in
spring or summer when frogs are calling.)
Geology: When glaciers retreated from WI 10,000 years ago they
left behind a unique landscape. Learn about how this was done and
other amazing features of geology. For an additional cost each student will get the chance
to crack their own geode and discover a treasure.
Turtles: One of our most
popular programs. The special adaptations and natural history of
turtles is discussed. Items such as shells and snapping turtle skull are
passed around for everyone to get a closer look. Two to three of our
resident turtles are also presented during this program.
