Befriend Woody!

Injury:  None – Kept as a former pet

Woody was originally bought in Florida at a pet store.  Although Wood turtles are protected in Wisconsin they're not protected in all parts of their range.  When the man moved to Wisconsin he contacted the DNR to see if he could continue to keep Woody as a pet.  They said this was fine.  After living in Wisconsin for awhile he got in contact with a local herpetologist from whom he found out he had gotten incorrect information.  Since there was no way to know where Woody originally came from and he had spent a long time in captivity already it was decided to give him to the Northwoods Wildlife Center.  Woody has been with us since 1990.  The man who formerly owned Woody still comes and visits once in awhile.
