Befriend Hook!

Injury:  Fishing hook caused loss of left eye.  Missing left foot from unknown source.

Hook came to the Center in July of 1999.  She had a somewhat common injury for turtles in fishing country.  A fish hook was struck in her left eye.  There was no way to remove the hook without causing the lost of her eye.  Also she was missing her left front foot.  No one knows for sure what could have happened, but there are theories.  She was born this way, a fish or larger turtle bite it off, or she might have lost it if fishing line got wrapped around it.  It was decided that since she had 2 injuries that we would keep her.  Today she is used as one of our education turtles to teach people about native turtles and make them aware of problems that fishing hooks and line can cause.
